Is downloading short videos legal?

Downloading videos for personal, offline viewing is generally permitted in most jurisdictions, similar to recording a TV show for time-shifting. However, redistributing downloaded videos, claiming someone else's content as your own, or monetizing content you don't own violates the Terms of Service of most platforms and copyright law. Always credit the original creator and never republish a video without explicit permission. If you plan to use a downloaded video commercially, contact the creator first.

Can I download videos as MP3 audio files?

Yes. After pasting a video URL and clicking Get Video, the preview card shows both a Download Video (MP4) and a Download Audio (MP3) button. The MP3 option extracts the audio track from the video — perfect for saving viral sounds, music clips, and podcasts for offline listening. Audio files are typically 5-10x smaller than the video equivalent, so they download faster and use less storage.

Do I need to install any app or browser extension?

No. This video downloader runs entirely in your browser. There's nothing to install, no extension to add, and no signup required. It works on every modern browser including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Samsung Internet. The downloader is also fully responsive — the same URL works on phones, tablets, and desktop computers with a layout optimized for each screen size.

Does the downloader work on iPhone and iPad?

Yes. On iOS 13 and later, open Safari, paste the video link into the search bar, tap Get Video, then tap Download Video on the preview card. Safari will ask for permission to download the file — tap Allow. The MP4 saves to your Files app under Downloads, and you can move it to your Photos library using the Files app's share sheet. The Paste from Clipboard button makes it easy to grab a share link directly from the source app's share menu.

Will the video quality be reduced?

No. Our downloader fetches the highest-quality MP4 stream the source platform offers for each video, typically 1080p or 720p at 30fps. We never re-encode or transcode the video — the bytes you download are the exact bytes the platform serves to its own mobile app. Audio is also preserved at full quality, usually 128 kbps AAC or MP3. If a creator uploaded a 4K video, you'll get the 4K version when available.

Why did I get an error saying my URL is truncated?

Most short video platforms use IDs that are exactly 19 digits long. When you copy a share link, sometimes the last few digits get cut off — especially if you copied from a screenshot, an OCR tool, or a chat app that truncated long URLs. The fix is simple: open the source app, tap the Share icon on the video, choose Copy Link, and paste it directly into our search bar. The full URL should look like https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/7653382148161736789 (or similar format on other platforms).

Are the downloaded videos stored on your server?

No. We never store downloaded videos on our servers. When you click Download Video, our backend opens a direct stream from the source CDN to your browser — the bytes pass through our server but are never written to disk. This means zero privacy risk, zero storage costs, and zero chance of your downloads being leaked or sold. The only thing we log is anonymous rate-limit counters (requests per IP per minute) to prevent abuse.

Is there a download limit?

There's no daily limit on how many videos you can download. To keep the service free and prevent abuse, we apply a per-IP rate limit of 10 requests per minute on the metadata endpoint. The free scraping backend we use also enforces its own 1-request-per-second limit. For 99% of users these limits are never noticeable — if you hit one, just wait a few seconds and retry.

Can I download private or age-restricted videos?

No. Private videos, age-restricted content, and videos that the creator has set to followers-only cannot be accessed by any downloader — including ours. Our scraper only sees what a logged-out visitor would see on the platform's public web frontend. If you can view the video in an incognito browser window without signing in, our downloader can fetch it. If you can't, neither can we.

Does this work with live streams or stories?

Currently the downloader only supports standard short videos (the kind with a permanent /video/ URL). Live streams that have ended and been posted as replays can usually be downloaded using the same share link. Stories expire after 24 hours on most platforms and don't have stable URLs, so they can't be downloaded by any third-party tool — including ours.

What happens to my downloaded video if the original is deleted?

Once you've downloaded a video, it's yours — the file on your device is completely independent of the source platform. If the original creator deletes the video, makes their account private, or the platform removes it for policy reasons, your downloaded copy remains playable. This is one of the main reasons people use downloaders: archiving content before it disappears. Just remember to respect the creator's copyright when reusing saved content.
